MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS

SCOPE of APPLICATION
Poured concrete and concrete block foundations, cavity walls, retaining walls, bridge abutments, reservoirs, culverts, sumps, pits, vats, tanks, built up asphalt flat roofs, shale, as noted on drawings shall be waterproofed by the Masonry Seal High Pressure Waterproofing System using 1 or 2 coats of Masonry Seal MSP-1.

MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS AND DESCRIPTION
Masonry Seal Emulsified Asphalt MSP-1 is a polymer modified liquid asphalt waterproofing that meets A.S.T.M.D-449.03 Type A. A.S.T.M Type A is described as "A soft, adhesive, self-healing asphalt that flows easily and is suitable for use below grade where it will not be exposed to temperatures exceeding 122deg F (50deg C). Elastomeric solids are added for bridging minor cracks and fissures. MSP-1 conforms to section 712-1.1, F.H.A. No. 300 Minimum Property Standards and conforms to HUD Manual 4900.1 and 4910.1. When used on flat roof surfaces and exposed to direct sunlight and temperatures above 122degF, life expectancy is 60 to 84 months.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. All surfaces shall be dry and clean, and defective work replaced and properly cured.
  2. All Masonry Seal products shall be applied by an experienced Masonry Seal distributor.

APPLICATION METHOD
At 100 PSI (air pressure system) or 2000 PSI (airless system), spray MSP-1 evenly over surface to be waterproofed so that all surfaces present a uniform brownish appearance (material will dry to an even black appearance). The application rate is approximately 30 sq. ft. per gallon. Drying time between first and second coats can be as little as 20 minutes or up to 3 hours depending on climactic conditions. Thickness of the dry product will depend on how porous the sub-straight is, normally 40mils for a 1 coat application (excavation can be backfilled within 24 hours). Backfill as soon as possible.

GENERAL CONDITIONS
"General Conditions of the Contract for the Construction of Buildings" standard form of the American Institute of Architects latest edition are part of this contract and shall be read by the contractor.

SCOPE OF WORK
Furnish materials, equipment, services and labor to complete waterproofing work as indicated in the drawings or specified herein.

MATERIAL APPLICATION

  1. All materials shall be manufactured by Masonry Seal Inc. as specified.
  2. Any exception to these specifications must be requested by the Contractor in writing to the Architect with detailed explanations and reasons.

PREPARATION OF SURFACE

  1. The surface shall be free of dirt, loose particles, efflorescence, laitance and other foreign material. All tie rods, metal separators, etc. shall be cut back, all holes so made and all other cracked, spalled and honeycomb concrete shall be patched with a suitable patching compound such as hydraulic cement.
  2. Masonry Seal Inc. does not presume to tell architects how the surface shall be cleaned. Field and local conditions vary. The parent office or local distributors are available to make suggestions.
