SHALE

MSP-1 LIQUID ASPHALT EMULSION SHALE SEALANT

SCOPE OF APPLICATION
All areas both horizontal and vertical should be sealed from air and moisture within 12 hours of excavation with Masonry Seal's MSP-1 Liquid Asphalt Sealant.

MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS
Masonry Seal Emulsified Asphalt MSP-1 meets A.S.T.M. D-449.03 - Type A. MSP-1 conforms to section 712-1.1 FHA No. 300 Minimum Property Standards and conforms to HUD Manual 4900.1 and 4910.1.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. All surfaces shall be dry and free of all loose shale.
  2. All Masonry Seal products shall be applied by an experienced Masonry Seal Independent Area Distributor.

APPLICATION METHOD
At 50 to 75 PSI, spray MSP-1 evenly over both horizontal and vertical shale surfaces so that the surface is uniform brown in color. Application rate is approximately 30 sq. ft. per gallon. Material should have sufficient time to cure before exposed to rain or foot traffic. It is recommended that all horizontal areas be lightly covered with gravel, sand or an equivalent before foot traffic. Due to the uneven nature of shale, it is not necessary to have 100% of the surface area covered by the sealant. A coverage of 95% exposed shale is sufficient to keep the shale from expanding and flaking.

SCOPE OF WORK
Furnish materials, equipment, services and labor to complete the work as indicated on the drawings.

PREPERATION OF SURFACES
All surface area to be sealed must be free of all loose shale, dirt, gravel and any other particles. Horizontal surfaces can be prepped with a flat shovel. It is not necessary to sweep horizontal area, but it is recommended.

RESTRICTION OF PRODUCT
ALL SHALE MUST BE SEALED WITHIN 12 HOURS OF EXPOSURE.
